On 19 November 2026, Artillerie Inrichtingen Armaments B.V. will return to Rotterdam Ahoy for NEDS, one of the leading defence and security exhibitions in the Netherlands.
NEDS brings together the Dutch and international defence community for a full day of meetings, demonstrations and new developments. For AIA, it is an important moment to show how our capabilities continue to grow and how we contribute to strengthening the defence-industrial capacity of the Netherlands.
Our preparations are now in full swing. The team is working on the stand, displays and systems that will represent AIA during the exhibition. This year’s presentation will focus on our latest developments and the solutions we are creating for current and future operational requirements.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet our team, explore our work and learn more about our capabilities in weapon systems, munitions and energetics, UAS systems and defence manufacturing.
We look forward to a busy day filled with valuable conversations, new introductions and familiar faces.

While NATO announced its new $40 billion Counter-Drone Initiative this week to address the growing threat posed by low-cost UAVs, we are not working on concepts or presentations. We are working on operational systems that are being built, tested, and further developed today.
The initiative includes investments in counter-drone capabilities, large-scale procurement of systems, and a fivefold increase in the number of drone operators within NATO.

Artillerie Inrichtingen Armaments Hosts European Defense Tech Hackathon, Accelerating Innovation in Dual-Use Technologies
From April 10 to 12, Artillerie Inrichtingen Armaments BV hosted the European Defense Tech Hackathon in Tilburg, bringing together over 130 participants, including builders, mentors, operators, and investors from across Europe.
Over the course of 72 hours, 15 teams worked intensively on challenges in autonomy, drone technology, communications, and broader dual-use applications. The event provided a unique environment where multidisciplinary teams collaborated closely with experienced mentors from the Dutch innovation ecosystem, as well as Ukrainian experts and active-duty military personnel offering direct operational insights.

A distinguishing feature of this year’s hackathon was the strong emphasis on practical execution. Participants had access to real hardware, full prototyping facilities, and on-site testing capabilities, enabling rapid development, iteration, and validation of solutions beyond conceptual design.
At the conclusion of the event, three teams were selected as winners, recognized for their technical innovation, applicability, and potential impact within the defense and security domain.
The hackathon builds on the success of last year’s edition in Amsterdam, where participating teams achieved significant follow-on development and investment. The 2026 Tilburg edition further reinforces the importance of collaborative, mission-driven innovation in strengthening Europe’s defense technology ecosystem.

Terug naar Nederlandse roots – Hellendoorn 23 Januari 2026
Artillerie Inrichtingen Armaments – AI – Armaments BV heeft het voormalige munitiecomplex Bruineveld verworven. De aankoop is volledig uit eigen middelen gefinancierd en markeert een concrete stap richting het herstel van Nederlandse munitieproductiecapaciteit.
AIA, voortgekomen uit een historische Nederlandse munitiefabriek, keert hiermee expliciet terug naar haar industriële roots.
De Nederlandse regering heeft, mede op basis van de lessons learned uit de oorlog in Oekraïne, uitgesproken dat Nederland weer over een eigen munitiefabriek moet kunnen beschikken. Met deze investering neemt AIA als private partij verantwoordelijkheid in een domein dat direct raakt aan nationale veiligheid en strategische autonomie.
Veiligheid en strategische autonomie
Bruineveld heeft een bewezen veiligheidsbestemming en kent een lange historie binnen de defensie- en munitieketen, inclusief eerdere Amerikaanse en Belgische betrokkenheid.
Die achtergrond maakt de locatie bij uitstek geschikt om ,na heractivering van vergunningen en modernisering , veilig en verantwoord bij te dragen aan Nederlandse en Europese munitieproductie.
In Europees verband vermindert de strategische kwetsbaarheid wanneer meerdere lidstaten beschikken over eigen productiecapaciteit. De versterking van Nederlandse capaciteit draagt daarmee direct bij aan de collectieve Europese veiligheid.
Inbedding in regio en keten
De doorontwikkeling van Bruineveld sluit aan bij de intensievere samenwerking tussen Defensie en Oost-Nederland. AIA werkt hierbij nauw samen met de provincie Overijssel, de gemeente Hellendoorn en ontwikkelingsmaatschappij Oost NL, met aandacht voor veiligheid, ruimtelijke inpassing en maatschappelijke meerwaarde.
AIA werkt reeds samen met TNO en Netherlands Industries for Defence & Security op het gebied van kennisontwikkeling, validatie en ketenversterking, waarmee het initiatief stevig is ingebed in de Nederlandse Defensie Technologische en Industriële Basis (NLDTIB).
Indien succesvol voortgezet, draagt dit initiatief bij aan:
• versterking van de Nederlandse strategische autonomie;
• vermindering van afhankelijkheid van buitenlandse leveranciers;
• behoud van kritische industriële kennis;
• hoogwaardige werkgelegenheid in de maakindustrie.
Het verkrijgen van een locatie was een 1e stap, we nodigen een ieder uit, om mee te denken, werken aan een verdere uitwerking van het plan.
The Deep Tech Defence Alliance (DTDA) is officially launched on 4 September 2025. Its goal: achieve a massive increase in defence exports and strengthen the Netherlands Defence Technological and Industrial Base (NLDTIB).
DTDA unites the most innovative players in Dutch and European defence technology – from start-ups and scale-ups investing 20%+ of turnover in R&D to component manufacturers and production-innovation companies with single and dual-use products. Focus areas include AI, quantum, advanced materials, autonomous systems, sensors, weapons, ammunition and space. The ambition: shorter development cycles, faster adoption, and direct operational deployment.
Near-shoring, adaptive production lines, and secure supply webs demand closer cooperation in the European home market. DTDA provides the network and leadership to make that collaboration concrete.
The establishment of DTDA is fully aligned with the Defence Strategy for Industry and Innovation (D-SII 2025–2029), the STRAIIK-D Action Agenda, and the Action Plan for Production Security in Unmanned Systems (APOS). The National Technology Strategy (NTS) highlights the same strategic technology domains. At European level, DTDA links directly to the White Paper on European Defence Readiness 2030, where the Netherlands – during the Defence Council (RBZ) in Copenhagen, 29 August 2025 – positioned itself as (co-)Lead Nation for the Prioritised Capability Area “Drones and Counter-Drone Systems.”
DTDA explicitly takes responsibility for shaping the innovation landscape, building a culture of coordination and leadership across the North-West European ecosystem. By helping policymakers develop instruments that match fast-changing operational realities, DTDA pulls policy closer to practice.
DTDA looks forward to moving from supplier to strategic partner and, through the umbrella of NIDV, entering into public–private partnerships with the Ministry of Defence.
The model resonates with initiatives such as BRAVE1 in Ukraine, where battlefield-proven innovation is already shaping European security.
The official opening is hosted by AI Armaments, one of DTDA’s charter members – underlining that the alliance is about concrete capability, not just policy.
