Building the Defence Industrial Base Europe Needs

Across Europe, defence investment is accelerating. NATO allies are increasing budgets, placing new orders and rebuilding capabilities at speed. But long-term resilience requires more than procurement alone. It requires industrial capacity.

That is the vision behind MMC Bruineveld: a Strategic Defence Manufacturing Campus in the Netherlands where production, testing, innovation and industrial cooperation can come together.

With approximately 140,000 m² of existing strategic defence infrastructure, industrial buildings, NATO-standard bunkers and room for future expansion, Bruineveld is not a greenfield concept. It is a dormant defence location that can be reactivated to support the security of the Netherlands, Europe and NATO.

The campus is designed to provide a platform where:

  • Dutch and international OEMs can collaborate;
  • offset and industrial participation can be realised in the Netherlands;
  • innovative SMEs and knowledge institutions can connect with defence manufacturers;
  • new production and testing capacity can be developed;
  • high-value employment can be created;
  • and Europe’s defence-industrial base can be strengthened.

As demand for defence capability continues to grow, strategic autonomy will depend not only on signing contracts, but on building the capacity to produce, innovate and cooperate closer to home.

Strategic autonomy starts with industrial capacity.
