AIA-LMG-5.56×45-Mk1-[BL]

A modular, gas-operated light machine-gun system in 5.56×45 mm NATO. The current AIA-listed configuration has a 406 mm (16 in) barrel and left-side belt feed. The broader 5.56 mm model range also includes a 460 mm (18 in) standard-length version, 330 mm (13 in) compact versions and a dedicated compact NATO-magazine configuration.

The system uses a long-stroke gas piston and open-bolt operation. Model-dependent features include semi-automatic and automatic firing modes, belt, drum or magazine feed, folding or telescopic stocks, adjustable cheek rests, bipods and sighting equipment. Dimensions, weight and performance figures are listed by configuration below.

5.56×45 mm model variants

The 16-inch entry reflects the current AIA listing. Other rows reflect distinct brochure-listed models. The brochure identifies the compact magazine-fed model separately; it does not publish separate weight or length figures for that version.

Gas operation

Long-stroke piston

Gas-operated, long-stroke piston architecture with open-bolt operation. The current AIA specification additionally lists a rotating-bolt locking system.

Firing modes

Semi-automatic and automatic

Brochure-listed models provide semi-automatic fire for controlled engagement and automatic fire. The current AIA-listed configuration specifies safe and fully automatic settings; confirm the fire-control option for the selected model.

Gas regulator

Environmental settings

A gas regulator supports continued operation in adverse conditions. Regulator settings and applicable operating instructions are model-specific.

Safety and servicing

Field-maintainable layout

The documented features include multiple safety mechanisms and quick field disassembly for maintenance.

Configuration options and accessories

Feed configurations

Belt, drum and magazine

The current AIA listing specifies left-side belt feed with 50-, 100- or 200-round containers. Brochure-listed 5.56 models include 150/200-round drums and a dedicated NATO-magazine version. The 7.62 NG-7 drum options are listed at 100/125 rounds. Availability is model-specific.
