We are seeking an Hazardous Materials Specialist to provide specialised knowledge and guidance on the safe handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials. Do you feel energy and passion for this mission? Then you are the one we are looking for!

Job Description:

As a Hazardous Materials Specialist, you will leverage your expertise in ammunition, explosives, and hazardous materials, which are fundamental to AIA’s products and operations. You will serve as a knowledgeable resource for colleagues in procurement, design, production, and sales, providing essential guidance and support. Collaborating closely with TNO and colleagues from AIA’s U.S. branch, you will also engage in discussions regarding sustainable solutions, especially in relation to our project focused on circularity in demilitarisation. Your knowledge and experience will establish the necessary frameworks for AIA colleagues and facilitate informed discussions with the Ministry of Defence.

Responsibilities:

  • Offering guidance on ammunition, explosives, and hazardous materials, to colleagues across various departments including procurement, design, production, and sales.
  • Collaborate with TNO and our US team to develop best practices for hazardous materials management.
  • Conduct assessments and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards regarding hazardous materials.
  • Monitor and report on the storage, usage, and disposal of ammunition and explosives to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations concerning hazardous materials and ensure company policies reflect these changes.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on hazardous materials safety and management to various departments, including input on sustainable solutions for munitions neutralization.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Education: Academic degree (Bachelor’s level) in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Safety Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., CHMM, HAZWOPER) is a plus, as is training for the handling of UXO/OO.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in hazardous materials management, safety compliance, or related fields, preferably within the defense or industrial sectors.
  • Language: Excellent proficiency in English is essential, while fluency in Dutch is considered an advantage.
  • Security: Mandatory Dutch background check (VOG).
